Navigation Metaphors In A VR Environment

Virtual Reality (VR) has been shown as a disruptive technology in different environments as entertainment or health but, with any kind of doubt, is in the training and education area where more expectations have risen. Its development over the last 60 years has been constant; from its official birth with Sensorama, the personal device from Heilig to the more recent Head Mounted Display (HMD), affordables, portables and with an attractive visual quality, technology has permitted a hardly believable development. This paper aims to present the results of an experiment studying different navigation metaphors in a VR environment, taking into consideration key factors, learning related. From these results, some interesting ideas have emerged, useful for serious games and training and learning interactive experiences in VR developers.
